Features Published: September 14, 2023

As the consequences of climate change become more present in our everyday lives, Boston Metal is proud to be among the trailblazing companies putting forth novel solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. Our work recently earned us a spot on the 2023 Norrsken Impact/100, a list of the world’s most promising impact startups selected by the Norrsken Foundation and its partners. This recognition further validates the strength and vision of our leadership and the ability of our Molten Oxide Electrolysis technology to transform metals production for a more sustainable future. Boston Metal was nominated by The Engine, our key investment partner for over two years, and was chosen out of 700+ nominees this year.

Boston Metal was celebrated amid an audience of founders, investors and business and policy leaders at Stockholm Impact Week on September 11-14, an annual Summit hosted by Norrsken and the City of Stockholm focused on enabling solutions to the critical issues of our time.

This award builds on our many great achievements in the last year and adds momentum to our mission. We recently closed our $262 million Series C funding round, further expanding our diverse investor syndicate . Earlier this year, we expanded our board of directors and made significant progress on commercializing MOE for high-value metals production, as we near the end of construction of our facility in Minas Gerais, Brazil, which has earned the support of the local government. In addition, Boston Metal was named 2023 North American Company of the Year by the Cleantech Group, and our CEO, Tadeu Carneiro, was honored as one of the 2023 Tech Power Players 50 by the Boston Globe for his influential role in shaping the Boston climate tech landscape.

Backed by over $500 million in funds, The Norrsken Foundation is dedicated to empowering impact-driven entrepreneurs to make a difference through their businesses. The Norrsken Impact/100 list is produced annually in collaboration with 30+ of the world’s most credible impact VCs and NGOs. Among them are Softbank, DC/VC, MIT/The Engine, Atomico, Bayer, Collab Fund, Unreasonable Group, the UNDP, Fifty Years, Acumen, Khosla Ventures, and others.
