Boston Metal CEO Tadeu Carneiro Named to Boston Globe’s Tech Power Players 50

As a company that got its start in the labs of MIT, we are proud of our deep roots in Boston’s innovation ecosystem. The proof is in our name! So it’s our great pleasure to announce that The Boston Globe has awarded CEO Tadeu Carneiro among the 2023 Tech Power Players 50 in recognition of Boston Metal’s impact on the local business community, as well as the broader climate tech industry.

Launched last year, the list highlights the individuals who are driving change, challenging the status quo, and proving to be influential leaders in Boston. The honorees are selected and ranked by The Boston Globe’s business and technology journalists with guidance from an external advisory committee.

Remarking on this award, Tadeu shared, “At Boston Metal, we’re working to solve one of the world’s most challenging and important problems – to eliminate nearly 10 percent of the global carbon emissions that come from the steel industry. And we’re doing it in a way that has never been done before. The talented and dedicated team we’ve assembled is well-equipped to solve this challenge and is innovating at a rapid pace. This award is a testament to their hard work, and I’m honored by the opportunity to lead the company through our next exciting phase of growth and commercial validation of our technology. We look forward to deepening our impact in Boston and continuing to tap the area’s impressive talent pool.”

Since joining Boston Metal in 2017 as the company’s sixth employee, Tadeu has overseen our team’s growth to over 120 strong. He spearheaded three funding rounds in just six years, amounting to over $200,000,000 raised, and orchestrated the launch of our Brazilian subsidiary, Boston Metal do Brasil. Under Tadeu’s tenure, we’ve been honored with multiple prestigious awards in recognition of our rapid growth and innovative technology’s potential to transform the steel industry, including the Cleantech Group’s 2023 North American Company of the Year, the 2021 S&P Platts Global Metal Award, 2020 BloombergNEF Pioneer and 2020 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer.

The team at Boston Metal is commercializing a revolutionary technology called Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) that will enable the scalable production of zero-emissions steel, as well as  more efficient, lower cost, and sustainable production of other high-value metals. Tadeu’s deep expertise, proven track record of scaling global organizations, and strong connections to the mining and steel industries have Boston Metal well-positioned to transform the steel and metals industries for a net zero future.
